Keely Moore is a student at the Francis Parker Middle School in San Diego, CA.
In September 2005, Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast region, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
After watching TV news reports and seeing the widespread images of destruction, misery, and heartache,
Keely was moved to do something about it. With the help of the school and her fellow classmates, she lead a
volunteer effort to gather donations of items so desperately needed by hurricane survivors.
On Thursday, September 15, Keely, along with other students, delivered a truckload of items to a local
San Diego hurricane relief center. The very next day, the donations were on their way to a Salvation
Army distribution center in Louisiana.
I was working at the relief center the day the Parker School donations arrived. I was amazed at the
number of boxes we unloaded from their truck and the volume of the donated items enclosed within.
And I was amazed by Keely Moore, the young lady who helped make it all possible.
