Tom Willis was born without arms and hands.

So he uses his legs and feet to do everything in his life including writing,
dressing, cooking, and even driving his sport utility vehicle specially equipped
with foot steering controls. Throughout his life, he has learned to adapt and
tackle the many obstacles and challenges he faces each and every day.

He meets with groups from professionals to pre-schools to share
his insights and experiences living his life from such a unique
perspective.
Despite his birth defects and early childhood marred with illness and surgeries,
body casts and braces, traction and prosthetics, Tom grew up as a normal child in
his family’s home in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
He excelled in academics, earning his Master of Education Degree in Educational
Technology (with a perfect 4.0 grade GPA) and his Bachelor of Arts Degree
(Magna Cum Laude) in Radio, Television, and Film Production, both from the
University of Maryland.
Tom worked for more than two decades as an award-winning video
and satellite TV producer, public affairs officer, and in various
administrative management positions for the Federal government
in Washington, DC, and San Diego, CA.
Tom shares personal stories of overcoming the physical obstacles he’s encountered in his personal and
professional life. He provides examples of not only meeting, but also exceeding in the various challenges he
has faced. And he recounts the skeptical attitudes he’s confronted, and how he easily proved them wrong.
His demonstrations using his feet show a creative and unique approach to problem solving.
Through audience interaction and role-play he shows how his approach to his career and to his life – with his
strategy of setting priorities, planning, persistence, and patience – can be a model for others to help address
